Oh no, it’s that time again when I should have a look at my
trailer wheel bearings. Get out the hammer and screwdriver and tap it in into
the crack on the dust cap, then whack it back and forth to get it off. Hope I
didn’t deform the dust cap or worse yet poke a hole in it.
It’s tough to spend $30 on a tool you won’t use that often,
but this is one of them.
Dust Cap Pliers.
You may have to give them a slight tap with a hammer to set
them, but then the cap will come off easily without damage.
And you can likely find a piece of plastic or metal pipe the
will fit over the cap and allow you to tap it in via the rim instead of
hammering on the dome.
Now you’ll look forward to wheel bearing maintenance!
