What The Previous A-Hole Boat Owner Did

Look what the previous idiot owners did to my boat!

Well, for one thing, I resemble that remark. I've been a previous owner of a few boats...and guess what? I intimately knew every system on every boat I owned. I did countless temporary repairs that became permanent. I used non-tinned wire for accessories, and didn't give a hoot about proper wire color code. I knew and understood my boat and knew it wouldn't make a difference, and if it did somehow make a difference, I'd know exactly what/where the effort would need to be directed. Granted, I was more thorough with anything that could prove life threatening while traveling well offshore, but very casual with potential upgrades/repairs that would merely be an inconvenience if not exactly correct.

If you buy a boat from me, know that you got a good price for a boat that's been well used and never babied. Don't expect a boat you buy from me to be 100% code or pretty. Neither code nor beauty is part of my purpose. Function, reliability and comfort are the only things important to me. If you want a pretty boat that's up to code, buy a new one.

My current boat is over 40 years old. She is a treasure chest of 'personal touches'. I ponder the purpose of many of those 'touches', other 'touches' I applaud.

Bottom line: Don't begrudge anything about your new boat bride...don't question her condition or history - love her and make her totally yours. If you do, she'll make you happy.
